Jan 21 2017 An Aesthetic Cheat Sheet for Men
You’re aging, but that’s ok because we have you covered. The cosmetic tools to turn back the hands of time are no longer reserved just for ladies. The best part is that there is no reason to feel shame, you’re far from the only one. More men are increasingly enhancing their look with lasers, needles and chemicals at record rates. Recently, research revealed that men are the fast-growing segment in the aesthetic industry. Per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the amount of men being treated with Botox has increased 310 percent since 2000. A parallel growth is occurring with other noninvasive treatments such as dermal fillers and laser treatments.
We understand the importance of customizing our aesthetic treatments for you. Top dermatologist in NYC, Michael Eidelman, M.D., advises in GQ magazine that aging in men tends to happen under the eyes and at the temples. An arsenal of treatments such as fillers like Restylane, Juvéderm and Sculptra add volume to sunken eyes and cheeks and intense pulsed light (IPL) minimizes age spots and broken blood vessels.
“I think men are starting to realize you can get this stuff done without looking like you had it done,” says Cliff Kohler, a 38-year-old retired Air Force captain who now works in the pharmaceutical industry. “People say, ‘Oh, you look so much more rested.’ ”
If you are interested in sprucing up your appearance but not sure where to start, Here is a quick guide to give you an idea.
Lines & Wrinkles
Solution: Injectable treatments such as Botox relax wrinkles for a smoother and rejuvenated look.
Brown Spots and Blotchy
Solution: Intense pulsed light targets brown and red pigment associated with sun damage. The treatment causes sun spots and freckles to darken and flake off after a few days. IPL treatments also combat facial redness caused by spider veins and residual effects of acne damage.
Sagging Face
Solution: Dermal fillers add fullness to the face, lift drooping areas and smooth out deep wrinkles.
Turkey Neck
Kybella is one of the hottest aesthetic treatments to remove submental (chin and neck fat) to achieve a slimmer, more youthful looking neck.
Lastly, it is smart to protect your investment with regular medical skin care treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and microneedling. These types of treatments will keep the signs of aging at bay and keep you looking your best.
Jan 12 2017 ThermiVa Aftercare for Cancer Survivors
Life After Cancer: ThermiVA
Life events such as childbirth, menopause and the natural aging process can alter a woman’s sexual health. These changes can have a substantial negative impact on a woman’s quality of life. Unfortunately, many products and treatments developed to combat these common feminine concerns cannot be adopted by those suffering from the same problems due to cancer treatments. Historically, the only options for cancer patients were lubricants, invasive vaginal surgery or hormones.
How Does ThermiVA Work?
ThermiVa utilizes radiofrequency energy, delivered through a thin, “S” shaped wand, to direct gentle heat deep into the tissues to stimulate the natural production of collagen. A total of three treatments three months apart can successfully treat:
- Vaginal dryness
- Vaginal atrophy
- Lack of libido or painful intercourse
- Urinary stress incontinence
- Skin laxity
- Organismic dysfunction
Adverse Effects of Cancer Treatment
Unpleasant side effects of cancer treatments can wreak havoc on women’s sexual health and personal life in a multitude of ways. Many suffer from severe vaginal dryness when surgical or medical menopause occurs due to the removal of the ovarian function. As extreme vaginal atrophy sets in the vaginal canal narrows making sexual relations very difficult to impossible.
Traditional treatments such as vaginal estrogen creams, dilators, pelvic floor physical therapy and lasers attempt to improve vaginal moisture by initiating tissue trauma and inflammation with laser heat. However, patients often find that the laser treatment causes severe pain due to the size of the laser probes. When the vagina is already extremely dry and tight, anesthesia becomes necessary.
ThermiVA to the Rescue
ThermiVA was introduced two years ago to breast cancer and uterine/pelvic cancer patients who are not candidates for other conventional treatments. Great success has been achieved for patients at all stages in their recovery. The slim wand allows for even the most severe cases of vaginal atrophy to be treated. New collagen and elastin is generated both outside and inside the vagina with temperature controlled radio frequency. There is also an increase of blood flow to the area due to the creation of new blood vessels. This is what is ultimately behind the “The Viagra Effect.” Natural vaginal discharge is formed because of the increased blood flow. The soft and elastic characteristics of new tissues permit stretching that could not be achieved previously. Typically, patients find they can renew their sexual relations within three months. ThermiVA has delivered exceptional results without discomfort, hormones or surgery.
ThermiVA treatments are performed without the need for anesthesia and there is absolutely no downtime. The patient can engage in sexual relations, exercise or any physical activity she chooses immediately following the treatment. The treatments take approximately 30 minutes to perform each month for three months with an annual touch up.
The key advantages of ThermiVA include:
- Non-surgical
- No downtime or lengthy recovery
- Painless
- Provides results after the first treatment
ThermiVA offers additional benefits such as skin tightening, leaky bladder, vulvar skin disorders and organismic difficulties. ThermiVA is quickly emerging as the gold standard for non-surgical and non-hormonal treatment for countless feminine ailments for breast and pelvic cancer patients.

Oct 16 2016 The Innovation of Microblading
You most likely have heard about the latest trend of microblading for achieving amazing brows. There is no doubt that the results delivered by microblading are superior to any other long term treatment for brow enhancement we have seen in the past. This is the ideal treatment for you to consider if you are not satisfied with the results from the endless waxes, gels, powders and pencils on the market. We already know that eyebrows have a big impact on the overall appearance of the face. Brows have the ability to accentuate your features and create balance when groomed. With brows booming in the business microblading services are popping up everywhere. Here are answers to your top microblading questions.
1.) What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent pigmentation process that uses several fine blades to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair. This procedure allows for customization of thickness, shape, color, and definition to eyebrows.
2.) Is it the same as eyebrow tattooing?
No, there are several differences between microblading and brow tattooing. First, microblading is the process of implanting pigment into the basal membrane which divides the superficial layer of the skin from deepest layer to create fuller looking brows. However, eyebrow tattooing does reach the deepest layer of the skin. Second, microblading is done using a hand held tool, also know as a pen to stimulate hair strokes in the brow whereas eyebrow tattoo is done with a motorized device. Third, microblading artists also use pigment vs. ink. Pigment has a thicker consistency while ink is more watery in texture and tends to have more staying power. The majority of pigment will last in the skin between 1-5 years, keeping in mind different skin types and the use of skin care products. There is no “spilling” under the skin which leaves the strokes fine and crisp. Naturally the pigment will exfoliate out of the skin over time causing the pigment to lighten. Tattoo ink penetrates down to the dermis and is permeant unless treated with laser tattoo removal.
3.) Does it hurt?
A topical numbing ream is applied to the area to minimize any discomfort. Most clients would agree that this is a relatively painless treatment to undergo.
4.) What can I expect?
The first session will take approximately 2 hours to custom design your brow shape based on your bone structure, eye placement, face shape and other factors. The pigment choice is then selected. Once your shape and pigment are agreed upon, you will then be numbed using a lidocaine cream. After your initial appointment, a touch up will be done between 4-6 weeks later.
5.) Is there downtime?
There is not significant downtime after your treatment. Many clients can walk right out the door, ready to show off their new brows. Once the procedure is complete, minor redness and swelling is expected to occur. Initially the color of the new brow will look very dark, but this will soften in 2-3 weeks. The most important thing is to keep this area clean and dry as it heals. Also, It is important to note that there is no sweating for 48 hours after the procedure.
6.) How long does it last?
Each person is different but you can expect to have your results for 12-18 months. Factors such as skin type and products being utilized can impact the duration of results. For example, those with more oily skin and/or use regular exfoliations such as Retin-A or acids will be more likely to need a touch up sooner.

Micro-Needling with PRP
2 is Better than 1
What is PRP?
Platelet rich plasma treatments have been a growing trend among aesthetic practices across the country. This popular treatment makes headlines every time a celebrity icon such as Kim Kardashian gives the treatment five stars. Despite the prevalence of PRP many people still have questions about platelet rich plasma and how it benefits their skin.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP contains a highly concentrated number of platelets and cytokines. These platelets release a complex mixture of eight potent growth factors that stimulate cell growth and conduct signals to help regenerate the skin. Cytokines, proteins that are key in cell signaling, encourage the body to rebuild damaged tissue which promotes the healing of soft tissue and the growth of new skin. These nutrients work wonders for the skin when they can reach the deep layers of the dermis.
Micro-needling & PRP
Micro-needling utilizes multiple fine needles to penetrate the skin to increase collagen production and to promote skin rejuvenation. Micro-needling as a standalone treatment can increase collagen by 200% and up to 600% when a topical growth factor serum is applied. It was designed to treat common skin concerns such as fine line, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone and texture. Micro-needling initiates the skin’s natural repair process by creating micro-injuries in the skin. When platelet rich plasma penetrates these tiny channels, it can work deep within the skin’s layers. The benefits are greatly enhanced when micro-needling and PRP are used in conjunction as they can improve the skin’s renewal cycle and increase your collagen by 1000%.
What Can I Expect During the Treatment?
Step 1: Your blood is drawn by a Certified Aesthetic Nurse.
Step 2: The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma, serum, white blood cells and red blood cells.
Step 3: The platelets are removed from the centrifuge.
Step 4: Your aesthetician will apply the platelets to your face and then micro-needle them into your skin.
Step 5: Three passes of micro-needling is performed over the face.
Step 6: You will leave the serum on your face for at least four hours after the treatment.
Step 7: One Treatment per month for 3 months is ideal followed by 1 per year for maintenance.
Micro-needling and PRP is an ideal treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks on all skin types. This all over facial rejuvenation results in younger, tighter looking skin that delivers incredible benefits that last up to two years.
Performed in unison with Micro-needling, at Bella Body Medical Spa, platelet rich plasma offers an astonishing age-defying solution. Both treatments that offer their own unique benefits come together to create lasting facial rejuvenation.
