PRF for Hair Restoration
PRF for Hair Restoration
Platelet-rich fibrin is a growth factor that exists within the human body that contains both platelets and white blood cells that significantly augment the rejuvenating effects associated with microneedling. A stand-alone treatment of microneedling induces collagen growth, but PRF dramatically increases that collagen production and helps produces new cells and elastin fibers. Microneedling PRF is the Holy Grail treatment for overall skin rejuvenation and fighting the signs of aging, but it’s also now becoming a go-to procedure for hair restoration.
Treatment & Results
PRF treatments start by drawing a sample of your blood and processing it through a centrifuge to isolate the PRF. Then, the PRF is injected into the area of hair loss using very fine gauge needles in a matrix pattern. PRF treatments for hair loss work by increasing your body’s natural production and stimulating hair growth.
Results can appear as early as 2 months after treatment, but optimal results can take anywhere between 4 to 8 months. You may notice continued improvement in hair loss for up to a full year. Follow-up visits every four months are recommended to keep track of the hair growth progress and determine whether any additional procedures are needed.
Post Care
The recovery process after PRF therapy is usually very easy, and any discomfort can be mitigated with over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen. Some patients may experience mild swelling of the forehead for a day or two after the treatment. Patients should avoid intense physical activity until the swelling has completely subsided. Normal hair washing can resume immediately after the treatment. Recovery times and specific post-treatment instructions will also depend on the required recovery instructions following laser hair restoration.
